Kerala local body polls: Woman candidates dominate in the list with 37,786 compared to 34,218 men
According to the data, 37,786 women, 34,218 men and one transgender candidate remain in the contest across the 14 districts. Malappuram leads with 7,786 candidates, followed by Kozhikode (5,884), Thrissur (6,907), and Ernakulam (6,571). Wayanad has the lowest number of contestants at 1,908. However, the SEC clarified that the figures are not final.
Thiruvananthapuram: As per the latest figures released by the State Election Commission, the state will have 72,005 candidates in the provisional list for the upcoming local body elections. Interestingly, it is the woman candidates who have dominated in the list with 37,786 woman compared to 34,218 men.
The numbers were published after the 3 pm deadline for withdrawing nominations had concluded.

The provisional roll was prepared based on nominations that remained valid following scrutiny and subsequent withdrawals.
While the Left Democratic Front (LDF) is banking on a series of major announcements, including benefits for government employees, a ₹1,000 relief payment for housewives, an increase in welfare pensions and a new bill to address wild animal conflict issues to strengthen the prospects of the LDF.
Meanwhile, the Congress-led UDF is banking on the anti-incumbency factor that has set in against the 9-year-old LDF government and its policies that has been under scrutiny. Congress also believes that the recent allegations against Devaswom board and its CPM members will help help Hindu votes to consolidate in its favour.
Meanwhile, the NDA is hoping that it can win more seats in central and south Kerala as compared to the 2020 local body polls. The BJP is looking to wrest the Thiruvananthapuram corporation back from the LDF.
Meanwhile, there has been numerous complaints from the ground against the SIR form filling and enumerations. This has led to many complaints being registered and political parties approaching the Supreme court for stalling the SIR procedure.
