Kerala: NSS decides to withdraw from alliance with SNDP ahead of polls

The NSS said that a unity with the SNDP was not feasible under the current political scenario in the state. The NSS director board stated that several attempts were made in the past to forge such an understanding, all of which failed and the board had concluded that the present effort also would yield a similar result.

Kottayam: The talks between the NSS(Nair Service Society) and the SNDP(Sree Narayana Dharma Paripala Sangham), the two prominent Hindu groups have been halted after the NSS director board decided to stay away from the decision after it alleged that political conditions and posturing cannot be a condition for the alignment talks.

The NSS said that a unity with the SNDP was not feasible under the current political scenario in the state. The NSS director board stated that several attempts were made in the past to forge such an understanding, all of which failed and the board had concluded that the present effort also would yield a similar result.

Earlier NSS General Secretary Sukumaran Nair and SNDP chief Vellappally Nateshan had stressed the need for a unity between the two prominent groups describing it the need of the group. As per sources, the decision was reconsidered after SNDP nominated Thushar Vellappally, a member of the NDA to lead the talks.

Reaffirming its policy of maintaining equal distance from all political parties, the NSS said that the prevalent political circumstances did not favour any organizational unity with the SNDP.

Meanwhile, SNDP chief Vellappally Nateshan he was aware of the decision of the NSS through media reports and did not react on the NSS stance.

It was just two days earlier that former BJP state president PS Sreedharan Pillai visited NSS headquarters and had held talks with the NSS chief.

This is not for the first time that talks between the two community groups gained momentum and later had withdrawn. Vellappally Nateshan had been in the forefront stressing for the need for talks between the two communities.

“I have always proposed for the need for unity between the two communities as i feel it is the need of the hour. Hindu communities in Kerala should unite and talks will continue going ahead”, said Vellappally Nateshan to media.
