Nilambur strongman PV Anwar likely to contest in LDF bastion Beypore
The speculation of Anwar, a former CPI(M) affiliate contesting from Beypore has been going around after posters of PV Anwar being put out at various locations in Beypore.
Kozhikode: Beypore, the coastal town in Kozhikode is by all probability going to be a litmus test in the upcoming polls for the CPI(M), a constituency which is being held by Mohammed Riyaz currently. With KPCC President Sunny Joseph indicating that Anwar would be the candidate for Beypore, heated political discussions are underway on who will be the LDF candidate.
The speculation of Anwar, a former CPI(M) affiliate contesting from Beypore has been going around after posters of PV Anwar being put out at various locations in Beypore. However, an official word from him nor the Congress or UDF had come out till date. However, the KPCC president himself coming up with a claim of Anwar contesting from Beypore has led to serious discussions within the CPM and its leaders in Kozhikode.
Thus PV Anwar is the first candidate to be decided by the UDF in the upcoming assembly elections.
Since early January he has been participating in various programmes of Congress leaders in the constituency. As per CPM sources, LDF is likely to field tourism minister PA Mohammed Riyaz from the constituency. CPM is hoping that traditional CPM votes will not shift towards Congress and the various development works initiated and conducted in the past 5 years by the LDF in the constituency will help them tide over the state-wide anti incumbency factor.
PV Anwar had resigned as Nilambur MLA after severing ties with the LDF last year following a major political battle with the CPM leadership over his statements against senior CPM leaders including CPI(M) state secretary MV Govindan Master and P Shashi. Anwar had made starting allegations against the CPM leaders stating that they had political tie-up with the RSS and that many senior police officers are acting on behalf of the RSS and BJP.
