Pinarayi Vijayan request central govt to assist Keralites stuck in Nepal and help them return safe
Around 200 people from parts of Kozhikode and Malappuram are stuck in a place called Goshala near Kathmandu where the conflict was at its peak. Many who spoke to News9 said that youngsters were seen damaging government properties and setting vehicles on fire
Thiruvananthapuram: With more than 500 Malayalees stranded at various parts of Nepal where the country is facing an internal conflict with the past 4 days witnessing unruly scenes following a ‘GenZ’ protest led mostly by youngsters, Kerala Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has written to external affairs minister Jayashankar to intervene in the matter and ensure the safety of the Keralites stuck in the neighbouring country.
"Many travellers who had gone to a picnic to Nepal is stuck at a place called Pokhra. Among these are elderly and children who are stranded at various locations. Most of them residing in the areas where the conflict has taken place. For them to continue to stay there is extremely risky and hence I appeal to you to ensure the safety and security of those people”, said CM Pinarayi Vijayan in the letter.
"I would request you to help those people stranded to reach their home-town and hence initiate the possible assistance from your side”, CM added.
A 12-member team, including students and teachers from Nirmala Arts & Science College, Mulanthuruthy, has been stranded in Nepal amid the unrest that led to the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Lalu P Joy, a teacher leading the group, confirmed that all members are safe. The Indian Embassy has advised them to remain at their current location until further notice.
The group left for Nepal on September 6 as part of a study tour. It includes two teachers and ten students. Their travel arrangements were handled by Kadambari Memorial College in Kathmandu.
