Lucknow has witnessed its toughest action yet against habitual traffic violators. In an unprecedented move, the Transport Department has suspended the registration certificates (RCs) of nearly 9,000 vehicles in a single sweep, targeting those who repeatedly violated rules and ignored pending challans.
Officials said these suspended vehicles include two scooters with more than 200 challans each, and hundreds of others with dozens of unpaid fines.
During the traffic department’s scrutiny, several shocking patterns emerged:
Once an RC is suspended, the owner faces several restrictions:
ADCP Traffic Ashok Kumar Singh said the action is part of a city-wide effort to discipline chronic violators.
He warned that any vehicle found operating with a suspended RC will be confiscated instantly. Special monitoring teams have been deployed across Lucknow to enforce the order.
ARTO Administration Pradeep Kumar Singh advised vehicle owners to clear their dues without delay. He said the RC gets automatically restored once the pending challans are paid.
“Delaying payment only increases the loss,” he cautioned, urging owners to check their challan status through the Parivahan app using their vehicle number.
The crackdown focuses on repeated and serious offences such as:
Authorities said such habitual violations directly trigger RC suspension under the new enforcement drive.
The large-scale action reflects Lucknow Police’s mission to make the city safer and rule-abiding. The message is unambiguous: follow traffic laws and clear your dues or be ready to lose the right to even own a vehicle, let alone drive it.
