New Delhi: The last 5 patients of Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, alias Dr N John Camm died on the day he operated upon them, said a report in Indian Express. The man is accused of posing as a fake doctor and running a medical facility without permission. He performed medical procedures without proper degree or training.
A report on the case was presented in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly. It said that the accused had been performing angioplasty procedures under a false identity. He reportedly conducted 12 such procedures at Mission Hospital in Damoh between January 2 to February 11.
According to news reports, 5 of the patients he operated upon in Damoh died the same day. While 2 died during the procedure, 3 died shortly after the procedure was complete. The report presented in the Assembly further said that the last 5 patients he treated who were all in the age group of 51 to 75 years, died one after the other in a span of 1 month.
The entire fiasco led to several questions upon how Yadav was hired without carrying out proper background checks. There were also questions upon how he was allowed to operate without proper oversights. The newspaper further said that Yadav resigned after the last death. He took a portable echo machine from the hospital with him.
Deputy Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Rajendra Shukla admitted that the hospital had failed to inform health authorities of Yadav’s appointment, as required under the Madhya Pradesh Nursing Homes and Clinical Establishments (Registration and Licensing) Act.
He said that since the hospital did not submit the details of Yadav, the government could not verify his credentials.
Yadav was arrested in April, 2024. He has been charged for fraud, impersonation and culpable homicide.
