Around 100 students fall ill after suspected food poisoning at railway training institute in Maharashtra's Bhusawal

New Delhi: In a suspected case of food poisoning, around 70-100 students fell ill at the Zonal Railway Training Institute (ZRTI) in Bhusawal town of Maharashtra's Jalgaon district on Sunday.

The incident came to light after students complained of sudden illness following dinner on Saturday night or breakfast on Sunday morning. Several trainees reportedly developed symptoms including vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach pain.

Around 40 affected students are undergoing treatment at the Railway Hospital in Bhusawal, while others have been admitted to private hospitals in the town.

Bhusawal is a major junction under Central Railway and is considered one of the country's key railway hubs. Concerns have been raised in the past over the quality of food served at railway establishments in the area. However, officials said the current incident is being treated as serious as it involves a zonal-level railway training institute.

Following the incident, railway authorities and the health department swung into action. Officials said food samples have been collected for testing and an inquiry into the matter has been ordered.

The condition of all affected students is being closely monitored. Railway authorities said strict action would be taken against those found responsible and steps would be put in place to prevent such incidents in the future.
