Pune: In a tragic incident, five people lost their lives, and one woman was seriously injured after their vehicle crashed into a tree near Mohol on the Solapur-Pune National Highway on Saturday night. The passengers of the vehicle were on their way from Panvel to Akkalkot for a pilgrimage.

How the incident took place

The incident took place when the driver of the vehicle lost control, after which it crashed into a tree on the road. The injured woman is currently receiving her treatment at a hospital in Mohol. The police is trying to identify the bodies of all the deceased in the accident.

Previous incident on the same highway

Last year on September 27, one person lost his life on the same highway, after a major accident took place at the Vakhari village in Daund taluka. The incident was caught on a CCTV camera. The accident occurred when the tempo driver lost control and crashed his vehicle into another temple that was coming from the Opposite direction.

The impact of the accident was so severe that both vehicles suffered heavy damages. The incident led to panic among passers-by and motorcyclists who were driving on the same route at the time of the accident.

The incident took place near Wakada bridge

Sharing details, the police had said that the accident took place near the Wakada bridge. Notably, the area where the accident took place is a frequent accident-prone zone. The CCTV footage showed that a controlled tempo collided with a divider before ramming into another vehicle.

After receiving the information, the Patas Police reached the spot and started the rescue operation. They also ensured the restoration of traffic movement after the incident. Talking about the incident, the police said that a probe into the incident was underway.
