Mumbai: A major fire broke out at the Dhobi Ghat in Babaji Patil area of Mumbra, Thane district, on Monday evening. According to officials, the blaze originated in the section where clothes are washed and soon spread to nearby laundry machines and a decorated mandap area.
Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot and are currently engaged in firefighting operations. Authorities have evacuated residents from the densely populated locality as a precautionary measure. No casualties have been reported so far and efforts to douse the flames are underway.
In another incident from Mumbai, one person died and three others were seriously injured in a fire that broke out in the Cuffe Parade area on Monday morning. The incident occurred in a chawl at Shivshakti Nagar on Captain Prakash Pethe Road around dawn. Upon receiving information, the fire brigade rushed to the spot and managed to bring the blaze under control.
According to officials, the fire was reported around 4:15 am. Smoke suddenly started billowing from a single-storey house in Shivshakti Nagar, causing panic in the neighbourhood. Local residents immediately alerted the fire brigade, which arrived within minutes and began firefighting operations.
A 15-year-old boy, Yash Vitthal Khot, sustained severe burn injuries and was admitted to St. George Hospital, where he later succumbed during treatment. Three other residents were injured in the incident and are undergoing treatment at the hospital. Officials said that all the victims lived in the same chawl.
