One of the most sought-after bowlers for the Sri Lankan side, Wanindu Hasaranga has proved to be a key figure for the team in the past years. Hasaranga, with his skilful bowling approach, has went on to become one of most prolific bowlers ever produced by the Asian side. Hasaranga, who fulfils his role as all-rounder in the team, has predominantly stunned the world his right-arm leg-break bowling.
Not only has he performed well in all the bilateral series' for the Lankan side, after making his debut in 2017 but he has the ability of being the right man for the big stage as he has delivered constantly for the team at the big ICC events. Hasaranga etched his name in the history books when he claimed his first-ever hat-trick in a T20 World Cup encounter during the 2021 edition of the tournament. Apart from this, he is the first Sri Lanka to take a hat-trick on his ODI debut.

When it comes to the performances in the shortest format of the game, Wanindu Hasaranga has done exceptional well in the past 7 years after debuting for Sri Lanka. The spinner stands tall in the elite list of players with most wickets in T20Is. In a total of 79 matches in T20s, Hasaranga has claimed 131 wickets to occupy the sixth position in the list of the bowlers with most wickets. The leg-spinner has best figures of 4/9 and has also claimed four 4-wicket hauls with an fantastic economic rate of 6.98.
Interestingly, Hasaranga is the only Sri Lankan bowler to feature in the top-17 list of players with most wickets in T20Is. Pacer Lasith Malinga occupies the 18th position with 107 wickets in 84 encounters.
Hasaranga, who also led Sri Lanka's T20I team, resigned as the skipper after the 2024 T20 World Cup on 11 July. Among some his other notable records in the shortest format, Hasaranga features in the list of bowlers with most wickets in a calendar year. The Sri Lankan has taken 38 wickets in one year in T20Is.
Out of his total 131 wickets in the format, Hasaranga has effected 31 dismissals through leg before wicket (LBW) which is a record. He completed 100 T20I wickets in just 63 appearances in the format which is also a notable feat. In the T20Is, Hasaranga has been given the man of the series award five times which is also a big feat. He also has the best bowling figures in an innings as a captain of a team.
