NDA's VP pick C P Radhakrishnan to file nomination Aug 20, poll on Sept 9

New Delhi: NDA vice-presidential candidate C P Radhakrishnan will file his nomination for the September 9 election on August 20. He was formally introduced to NDA constituents at a meeting of floor leaders held on Monday at Union minister Prahlad Joshi's residence in New Delhi.

Union ministers Kiren Rijiju and Bhupender Yadav attended the meeting, along with JD(U) leader Sanjay Jha, Shiv Sena's Shrikant Shinde and Milind Deora, NCP leader Praful Patel, Apna Dal's Anupriya Patel, AIADMK's Thambi Durai, TDP's Lavu Sri Krishna, AGP's Birendra Prasad Baishya, and LJP leader Chirag Paswan.

According to reports, discussions were held on the formalities of the nomination, and signatures were collected on the nomination papers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to introduce Radhakrishnan to MPs at the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi met Radhakrishnan and conveyed his best wishes. In a post on social media platform X, he wrote: "Met Thiru C P Radhakrishnan Ji. Conveyed my best wishes on his being the NDA’s Vice Presidential nominee. His long years of public service and experience across domains will greatly enrich our nation. May he continue to serve the nation with the same dedication and resolve he has always demonstrated."

Radhakrishnan, currently serving as governor of Maharashtra, was received at the airport by Union cabinet ministers and Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta.

The vice-presidential post fell vacant following the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar on July 21, who stepped down citing "health reasons".
