Dehradun: Due to the rising violence and unrest in Nepal, Uttarakhand has stepped up its security, especially in the three districts that share a border with Nepal—Pithoragarh, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar.
Police officials, intelligence teams, and paramilitary forces are working together to maintain peace and prevent any cross-border tension.
Unrest in Nepal has raised concerns in India’s bordering states
The unrest in Nepal has raised concerns in India’s bordering states. The protests in Nepal, mostly led by youth and students, are focused on issues like corruption, unemployment, and a recent ban on social media platforms. The protests turned violent, leading to clashes with security forces and the death of several demonstrators. Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli resigned following the pressure, but the protests have continued, with people now demanding major political reforms.
Police has issued a high alert in the sensitive areas
In response, Uttarakhand Police has issued a high alert in the sensitive areas. Extra patrolling has been started in the border regions, and police teams are keeping a strict watch on all entry and exit points. Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), the central force deployed along the Nepal border, has also been instructed to increase vigilance and coordination with local police.
Intelligence agencies are active and closely monitoring the situation
Inspector General (IG) Law and Order, Dr. Nilesh Anand Bharne, said that intelligence agencies are active and closely monitoring the situation. According to him, although the unrest is currently within Nepal, precautionary measures are being taken to ensure peace in Indian territory.
Social media is also being monitored
Social media monitoring has also been intensified. Police teams at the district and state levels are keeping an eye on posts that could spread misinformation or incite unrest. Any person found sharing fake news or inflammatory content related to Nepal’s situation may face legal action. Authorities are especially alert to prevent the spread of rumors that could disturb peace in border villages.
Additional forces are on standby
Checkpoints at key locations have been activated, and additional forces are on standby. If needed, more armed personnel will be deployed. Local police officials in Champawat, Pithoragarh, and Udham Singh Nagar have been directed to maintain constant contact with Border Security Force (BSF) and SSB units.
State authorities appealed to the public to stay calm
The Uttarakhand government has appealed to the public to stay calm and avoid spreading unverified news. Officials are confident that with joint efforts from all agencies, law and order will be maintained. As the situation in Nepal unfolds, Indian authorities remain on high alert, ensuring that peace and safety are not compromised on this side of the border.
