NHAI collects Rs 150 crore within four days by issuing 5 lakh annual toll passes

Within four days of launch, NHAI's new annual toll pass generated Rs 150 crore in revenue from 5 lakh sales. Tamil Nadu led in purchases, followed by Karnataka and Haryana.

New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), within four days of the annual toll permits has managed to collect a whopping Rs 150 crore upfront by issuing staggering 5 lakh passes.

In the last four days, the most Annual Passes were purchased in Tamil Nadu, with Karnataka and Haryana following in the list of highest purchases. Additionally, Tamil Nadu recorded the highest number of transactions through FASTag Annual Pass at the toll plazas, alongside Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Notably, the NHAI has informed all these in a statement.

Thanks to the annual toll pass, which begets an upfront payment of Rs 3,000, private vehicles can get free passage through toll plazas on national highways and expressways. It will exist along with the present system of collecting user fees on highways. Also, the annual toll pass allows a private user 200 trips or crossings on the toll plazas, with each crossing considered as a single trip with a round trip having two trips.

Those who already have FASTag can activate the pass and one can get it only on the Rajmargyatra mobile application and NHAI's website. The FASTag will operate in its present, regular form at fee plazas on expressways and state highways, which the state governments or local bodies manage.

How will the annual pass help in revenue?

One can use the annual pass on about 1,150 toll plazas on National Highways and Expressways. It is applicable for all vehicles that are non-commercial and have a valid FASTag. One has to make a one-time payment through the Rajmargyatra App or the NHAI website, and the annual pass will be activated within two hours. In 2024-25, the annual toll collection of national highways was almost Rs 61408 crore, which makes around Rs 168.24 crore a day.
