New Delhi: In a shameless incident reported from Odisha's Gajpati district, a peon allegedly served urine to a government engineer when he asked for water. The incident has caused outrage, prompting police to initiate action. The engineer is reportedly working with the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department (RWSS).
It is alleged that the peon served urine to the official when he reportedly asked for water. Due to this, the engineer's health deteriorated, and he is currently undergoing treatment. At present, the sample of that water/urine has been sent for testing.
The engineer has lodged a complaint at the police station regarding this. The police also took action in the matter. The incident is said to have taken place on July 23.
Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department (RWSS) engineer Sachin Gowda wrote in the FIR application, "I joined the office as a junior engineer on July 22. After having dinner on July 23, I asked for water from the peon Siba Narayan Nayak."
Gowda alleges that the peon handed him a steel bottle, saying it had drinking water. Later, it was suspected that it contained urine. Two other employees also drank water from the same bottle, and they also complained about the foul smell coming from the water.
As per the allegation, the taste of the water was also completely different, and it was stinking badly. So they saved the remaining water/urine. The next day, the engineer fell ill, and then he went to the police station.
Gowda told the police the whole story. After the FIR was lodged, a sample of the liquid left in the bottle was sent to a local laboratory. A second sample has been sent to a laboratory in Paralakhemundi for a conclusive examination.
The engineer, who fell ill after the incident, is undergoing treatment. A complaint has been lodged at the R Udayagiri police station demanding strict action against the accused. The matter has also been raised at the Odisha Water Resources Directorate and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
Meanwhile, the peon said that he had given water, and it was not adulterated in any way. He said, "I do not know why the engineer is making such allegations against me." The police released the peon on Thursday night after questioning.
Then on Friday morning, the police called the accused peon to the police station and arrested him. Further action will be taken after the report of the water/urine sample comes.
