Op Cherji: Encounter under way between security forces, terrorists in Jammu and Kashmirs Kishtwar

This comes a day after the Counter-Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) unit carried out search operations at 10 locations across four districts in the Valley. These raids were linked to sleeper cells and recruitment networks allegedly run by Jaish commander Abdullah Ghazi from across the border. New Delhi: An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Dacchan area of Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district on Sunday. Security personnel have surrounded two to three terrorists believed to be affiliated with the terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed. A search operation is ongoing in the area, launched on the basis of intelligence inputs suggesting the presence of terrorists.

White Knight Corps in a post on X said: "OP CHERJI, Based on specific inputs an operation was launched by #IndianArmy in the Hadal Gal area of #Kishtwar Sector. Contact has been established with #terrorists. The #operation is currently in progress."

The area has been completely cordoned off. The operation is being jointly conducted by the Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police. The encounter began earlier this afternoon.

Search operations across Valley

Security forces have intensified counter-terror operations to dismantle terrorist networks in Jammu and Kashmir. Similar extensive search operations have been conducted in Kishtwar earlier as well. In recent weeks, over 70 search operations have been launched in sensitive hilly districts such as Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Udhampur, Doda, and Kishtwar.

According to reports, around 50 to 60 terrorists are said to be present in the districts of Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kishtwar, Reasi, and Udhampur. Most of these terrorists are believed to be affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed and are operating in small groups. Moreover, over 70 terrorists are stationed at launchpads across the Line of Control (LoC), attempting to infiltrate into India.
