New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday visited Dehradun to review the flood situation in Uttarakhand and announced a relief package of Rs 1,200 crore for the state.
During an official meeting with state officials, PM Modi assessed the damage and reviewed the relief and rehabilitation measures underway. He stressed the need for a "multi-dimensional approach" to help the affected region recover, including rebuilding homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, restoring highways, reconstructing schools, providing relief through the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF), and distributing livestock support kits.
Financial assistance under special project
Financial assistance will be extended under a "special project" for reconstruction of houses in rural areas whose homes were damaged in the floods.
The Centre has already dispatched Inter-Ministerial Central Teams to Uttarakhand to assess the extent of destruction. PM Modi said further assistance will be considered based on their report and the state's memorandum.
The Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of those killed and Rs 50,000 for the seriously injured. Children orphaned by the calamity will be supported through the PM CARES for Children scheme.
