PM Modi speaks to President Putin on phone, vows to deepen India-Russia ties

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone on Friday. President Putin briefed him on the latest developments in Ukraine. Thanking Putin for the update, PM Modi reiterated India’s consistent call for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

The two leaders reviewed progress on the bilateral agenda and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia. The PM also invited Putin to visit India later this year for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit.

In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, " Had a very good and detailed conversation with my friend President Putin. I thanked him for sharing the latest developments on Ukraine. We also reviewed the progress in our bilateral agenda, and reaffirmed our commitment to further deepen the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. I look forward to hosting President Putin in India later this year."

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a call from Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The two leaders agreed on a framework to enhance cooperation in trade, technology, energy, defence, agriculture, health, and people-to-people exchanges. They reiterated their commitment to advancing the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership and exchanged views on key regional and global issues of mutual interest.
