New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said he spoke with US President Donald Trump to congratulate him on the success of what he described as the “historic Gaza peace plan. The PM also said that India and the United States are reviewing their trade negotiations, which had slowed down amid the ongoing tariff dispute between the two nations.
"Spoke to my friend, President Trump and congratulated him on the success of the historic Gaza peace plan. Also reviewed the good progress achieved in trade negotiations. Agreed to stay in close touch over the coming weeks," PM Mod wrote on X, tagging the official handles of the President of the United States (POTUS) and Donald Trump in his post.
His latest social media post came shortly after he lauded former US President Donald Trump’s announcement of Israel and Hamas agreeing to the first phase of his 20-point Gaza peace plan. Modi called the development “a reflection of the strong leadership of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.”
Earlier, Trump revealed that Israel and Hamas had reached an agreement on the initial stage of a US-mediated peace plan to halt hostilities in Gaza and facilitate the release of hostages and prisoners, effectively bringing an end to the conflict.
The breakthrough came just a day after the second anniversary of Hamas’ attack on Israel. The deal emerged from indirect negotiations in Egypt, where representatives from the US, Israel, Egypt, and Qatar finalized the first stage of Trump’s hostages-for-ceasefire framework.
