PM Modi to inaugurate Indias 1st nature-themed airport terminal in Assam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new terminal building of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati on Friday as part of his two-day visit to Assam. Built at a cost of around Rs 4,000 crore, the terminal is the largest in Northeast India and aims to boost connectivity, tourism and economic growth.

Designed under the 'Bamboo Orchids' theme, it is India's first nature-themed airport terminal, inspired by orchids (Kopou Phool), bamboo, the Brahmaputra, Kaziranga and Majuli.

Built at a cost of about Rs 4,000 crore, the terminal is the largest in Northeast India, seven times bigger than the existing facility.

Once fully operational, it will handle 13.1 million passengers annually by 2032, with capacity for 34 air traffic movements per hour, the highest in the region.

The terminal focuses on technology and passenger convenience, featuring DigiYatra gates, AI-driven operations, automated baggage handling, advanced ILS, and upgraded runway and airfield systems.
