New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon visit states reeling under heavy rains and floods to take stock of the situation, news agency PTI reported citing official sources.

Relentless monsoon rains have battered north India in recent days, with Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab among the worst affected. Crops, roads and property have been destroyed, while hundreds of lives have been lost.

According to reports, more than 500 people have died across Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab and Haryana this monsoon season. Fresh landslides, flash floods and house collapses in the past two days have added to the toll.

Himachal Pradesh, among the worst-hit states, has witnessed 95 flash floods, 45 cloudbursts and 132 major landslides since the monsoon began on June 20. At least 355 people have died in rain-related incidents and road accidents, while 49 remain missing.
