New Delhi: In a shocking incident reported from Sangvi area in Pimpri Chinchwad, near Pune, a 26-year-old man was beaten to death by the family of a woman he loved. The victim was identified as 26-year-old Rameshwar Ghengat.
According to a report in NDTV, Ghengat was invited by the girl's family to their home on the pretext of discussing marriage. But when he reached there with his family, he was badly beaten up by the girl's family, including her father. The incident happened on July 22, said police officials.
The police said that the girl's family was against the marriage, as Ghenghat had a criminal background. In fact the man faced a charge of rape. Cases were also filed against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act or POCSO.
Ghengat and his girlfriend were reportedly adamant upon getting married, but the family of the woman was not ready to accept the alliance. However, the girl's family still called him home on the pretext of discussing marriage.
The man reached his girlfriend's house accompanied by his parents. Soon after a quarrel broke out between the two parties. Then the woman's father, Prashant Sarsar and some of the other relatives took Ghengat to a separate room and beat him up badly.
Ghenghat was badly injured in the beating and was rushed to a hospital. Despite the best efforts of the doctors at the private hospital, he could not survive. Following his death, his family filed a police complaint against the girl's family.
The police have arrested the girl's father, Prashant Sarsar and 9 others for the murder. The victim's family has named 11 people in their complaint. The police said that 2 people are absconding and they hope to catch them soon.
