‘Purely political’: Shivraj Chouhan slams Congress’ criticism of G RAM G Act
Earlier in the day, the Congress held a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) where it was decided that that the party would hold protest over G RAM G and other issues on January 5 next year.
New Delhi: Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday slammed the Congress over its protest over the newly notified Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB–G RAM G). Recently, the BJP-led Government had passed the G RAM G Bill in the Parliament, which was later cleared by the President. The Government is looking to replace GRA G with MNREGA.
Earlier in the day, the Congress held a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) where it was decided that that the party would hold protest over G RAM G and other issues on January 5 next year.
‘Congress had no intention’
Taking to X, the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister wrote, " The Congress party's outcry is purely political. The Congress had neither the intention nor the policy to genuinely help. This is the same Congress that invoked Mahatma Gandhi's name for electoral gain. This is the same Congress that repeatedly reduced the MNREGA budget. This is the same Congress that froze wages. Today, Congress leaders are shedding crocodile tears.”
‘Money reaching the labourer’s account directly.’
"Today, when technology, transparency, and timely payments are ensuring that the money reaches the laborer's account directly, the Congress sees this as an attack. This scheme stipulates that decisions will now be made at the village level, not in Delhi. Gram Panchayats will sit together and create their own plans,” he added.
New scheme has strengthened employment: Chouhan
Slamming the Congress on MNREGA, he noted, "This scheme has not reduced employment, but rather strengthened it. The number of employment days has been increased from 100 to 125 days. There is a provision for unemployment allowance if work is not provided within the stipulated time, and if there is a delay in wage payment, there is a provision for additional compensation for the delay. Clearly, employment security is not decreasing, but increasing.”
