New Delhi: A poor farmer from Piploadi village in Jhalawar district has handed over his ancestral house to run a school after the village school building was declared unsafe and demolished.
The incident dates back to July 25, when the dilapidated government school building in Piploadi collapsed. With no proper classrooms left, the education of village children came to a standstill. Concerned about their future, local farmer, Mor Singh, belonging to the Bhil tribal community, offered his own pucca house for the school operations to continue.
Despite being illiterate himself, Singh said that he did not want village children to suffer the same fate. "There are very few educated people in our village. If the Education Department takes months or years to construct a new building, children will lose valuable time. I gave up my house so that their studies don't stop," Singh said.
Since making this decision, Singh and his family of eight have moved into a makeshift hut near their farmland, built from wood and tarpaulin. For them, living in a cramped and temporary shelter is a daily struggle. But Singh says that it is worth the hardship if it ensures uninterrupted schooling for the children.
His selfless gesture has won admiration across the district. On August 15, Independence Day, the Jhalawar district administration honoured Singh due to his commendable sacrifice.
