New Delhi: In a shocking case reported from Rajasthan's Alwar, a man's body was recovered from inside a drum. The body was discovered on the first floor of his rented accommodation and brought back memories of the Meerut murder where a man was found buried in a blue drum. The incident was reported from Adarsh Colony in Tijara district.
According to a report in NDTV, the landlady went to the first floor of the house for some work, but was forced to return due to a strong smell. The elderly lady suspected something amiss and informed the police.
When the police came and opened the drum, they found a dead body inside it. The body was identified as that of Hansraj, who worked at a brick kiln. He is a native of Uttar Pradesh. His wife and children are missing, said officials.
The police found that a stone had been put on top of the blue-coloured drum, possibly in an attempt to cut off the foul smell.
A police officer in civil clothes was seen throwing down the stone and opening the drum. He had to cover his nose and mouth with a cloth to avoid the foul smell. The man then pulls out a bedsheet from the drum and then sees the dead body.
Rajesh Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police said that they received information about foul smell coming from a house in Adarsh Colony. When the police team reached the house, they found that a man's dead body had been stuffed inside a blue drum, which was kept on the terrace of the house.
The victim Hansraj, alias Suraj used to work at a brick kiln in Kishangarh Bas area, said the Police officer. He had taken the house on rent one and a half months back. He used to stay here with his wife and 3 children. The police said that they have launched a search for his family.
A forensic team reached the spot and is gathering evidence. It is not yet known how the man was killed or for how long had his body been hidden inside the drum. The police are trying to get in touch with other family members of the man.
In a similar case reported in March from Meerut, a man was killed by his wife and her lover. The two then stuffed his body inside a blue-drum and sealed it with cement. The crime came to light when the daughter kept telling neighbours, "Papa drum mein hain".
