Rape case: In a major relief for Rahul Mamkoottathil, Kerala HC stalls arrest till Dec 15
Rahul's arrest has been temporarily stopped in the first case registered against him where a survivor had filed a complaint to the Chief minister that she was sexually assaulted under the pretext of marriage.
Ernakulam: In a setback to prosecution, the Kerala High court prevents the arrest of Palakkad MLA and former Congress leader Rahul Mamkoottathil.
The absconding MLA had approached high court for anticipatory bail as Thiruvananthapuram Sessions court had earlier denied his anticipatory bail plea.
However, legal experts say that the current development is not a major relief for Rahul as more FIR's being registered will be a major setback for Rahul Mamkoottathil.
Rahul Mamkoottathil had been absconding for the last 10 days. The MLA had fled the spot while campaigning for UDF candidates in Palakkad local body polls.
"Congress shielded Rahul": Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan
Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan had slammed Rahul Mamkoottathil and the Congress party stating that the accused MLA had predatory behavior.
"Rahul Mamkoottahil's behavior was extremely predatory in nature and the Congress party and its leaders had shielded him till date. CPM condemns such acts and will ensure that the perpetrator will face the law", CM said while addressing the media on December 5.
