RSS, BJP trying to destroy Constitution: Rahul Gandhi at launch of Voter Adhikar Yatra

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday once again accused the Election Commission of colluding with the BJP to "steal votes". He said that this was being done through the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. He claimed the the SIR exercise in Bihar was aimed at deleting names of genuine voters and adding fake voters. He said that the people of Bihar would unite to stop their votes from being stolen.

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday addressed the 'Voter Adhikar Rally' in Bihar's Sasaram. He accused the BJP and RSS of trying to destroy the Constitution. He also talked about Assembly Elections and Lok Sabha Elections "being stolen", which has now become an often repeated accusation made by the Opposition, against the Election Commission and the BJP.

Gandhi further described Congress' struggle against the BJP and the EC as a fight to save the Constitution. He said that the entire country knows that the EC is colluding with the BJP to steal the elections, but the INDIA bloc will not let them succeed in stealing the Bihar Elections, by voter addition and deletions, through Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

Gandhi then went on to say that while he was asked to submit an affidavit by the EC after his press conference on "vote chori", no such demands were made from BJP leaders who made claims in their presser.

Gandhi said that the EC and BJP were trying to steal the Bihar Elections next, but the people of Bihar will not let them do so. He added,"The poor only have the power of vote and will not let them steal the polls."

The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said that the whole country knew that EC was carrying out vote "theft". Referring to the Maharashtra Elections, he said, "In every election BJP wins. In Maharashtra all opinion polls said the INDIA bloc will win. In the Lok Sabha, our alliance had won but after four months in the same Maharashtra, the BJP alliance swept the polls as one crore voters were added and wherever such additions happened BJP won."

He said that the Congress Party's investigations showed that over 1 lakh votes were stolen in 1 Assembly segment and the BJP won that Lok Sabha seat.

The 1,300 kilometre-long 'Voter Adhikar Rally' is going to cover 20 districts of Bihar. With this, the Congress and the Opposition have sounded the poll bugle in the state. The rally on Sunday was organised at Sasaram's Biada Ground.

Accompanying the Leader of Opposition on stage were Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, RJD chief Lalu Prasad, Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav, Vikassheel Insaan Party's Mukesh Sahani, CPI(ML) Liberation general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, CPI(M)'s Subhashini Ali and CPI's P Sandosh Kumar.

Assembly polls in the state (Bihar) are barely 3 months away. Before coming to Sasaram for the rally, Gandhi had posted on social media platform 'X' about it. He wrote, "16 days, 20+ districts, 1,300+ km. We are coming among the people with the Voter Adhikar Yatra. This is a fight to protect the most basic democratic right - 'one person, one vote'." "Join us in Bihar to save the Constitution."

This yatra will pass through Aurangabad, Gaya, Nawada, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Munger, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Purnea, Araria, Supaul, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, East Champaran, West Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Chapra and Ara

It will conclude with a rally on September 1, 2025 with a gathering in Patna's Gandhi Maidan.
