New Delhi: A six-year-old girl was physically assaulted by a group of boys in Ireland, who reportedly hurled racist slurs and told her to "go back to India." The attack occurred while the girl was playing outside her home.
According to the Irish Mirror, the girl was attacked around 7:30 pm outside her residence while her mother stepped inside the house to feed her 10-month-old son. The mother, a nurse and an Irish citizen who has lived in the country for eight years, said that her daughter returned crying. She was unable to speak due to fear.
'Go back to India'
"They called her a 'dirty Indian' and said 'go back to India' while punching her and pushing a bicycle wheel into her private parts," one of her friends said. The attackers were reportedly boys aged between 12 and 14. The girl also sustained injuries to her neck and scalp due to the pulling of her hair.
The mother described feeling helpless and heartbroken. "I never thought she would face this in our neighbourhood. We thought we were safe here," she said. The family had only recently moved into the area.
The mother has filed a complaint with the Garda (Irish Police). She stated that she does not want punitive action against the minors. "They need to be educated. This isn't about punishment, it's about teaching children how to treat others with respect," she said.
Reminder of similar incidents in the past
This assault comes amid a series of similar racist attacks in Ireland. Just last week, Indian-origin data scientist Santosh Yadav was brutally beaten in Dublin by a group of teenagers. His glasses were broken and he was left bleeding on the pavement after being kicked and punched repeatedly.
In another incident, an Indian taxi driver was struck with a bottle by passengers who later fled, shouting, "Go back to your own country." Last month, an Indian man was stripped and assaulted in Tallaght. It left him with serious injuries.
The Indian Embassy in Ireland has issued an advisory to exercise increased caution amid a surge in physical assaults targeting members of the Indian community. It has also urged the citizens to avoid deserted areas during odd hours and report any incidents to authorities.
