New Delhi: A new video of Umar Mohammad alias Umar-un-Nabi, the terror accused in the November 10 Red Fort blast, has emerged in which he can be heard talking about suicide bombing. In the clip, Umar was heard saying that suicide bombing is one of the "misunderstood concepts" and that it is considered "martyrdom operation" in Islam. The video surfaced a week after the dastardly blast near Delhi's iconic Red Fort.
A powerful blast rocked Delhi on November 10 after a car, which was allegedly driven by Umar, exploded in the middle of busy traffic near Red Fort. At least 15 people died in the blast and several others were injured. The government has termed the explosion a "heinous terror incident". The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is probing the blast case.
"One of the very misunderstood concepts is the concept of what has been labelled as suicide bombing. It is a martyrdom operation... known in Islam. There are multiple contradictions; there are multiple arguments that have been brought against it," Umar, who was a medical professional, is heard saying in the self recorded video.
He further says in the video that a "martyrdom" operation is one in which a person presumes that he is going to die for sure at a particular place and time.
On the fateful day of November 10, Umar entered the Sunehri Masjid parking lot in Chandni Chowk at 3:19 pm. He remained there for more than three 3 hours and left the parking lot around 6:30 pm, without stepping out, according to a footage. Umar was seen driving the car with his hand resting on the window frame.
Shortly after exiting the parking lot, the car moved towards Netaji Subhash Marg near Red Fort and detonated amid slow-moving evening traffic.
