Srinagar: A number of drones were seen hovering along the Line of Control (LoC), putting the Indian Army on high alert. Multiple drones were seen in districts like Poonch, Rajouri and Samba.
Extensive search operations were ordered soon after the drones were noticed to avoid the possibility of arms or contraband being dropped on the Indian side, India Today reported. As per officials, these flying objects were seen entering India, hovering briefly in sensitive areas, and then returning towards Pakistan.
As soon as these drones were noticed, the security forces were on high alert and started search operations near suspected areas where drones could be dropped. The report added that security forces opened fire after noticing a drone near Gania-Kalsian village on Sunday evening.
In the Samba district, too, drones were noticed at Chak Babral village around the same time. In Poonch too, security forces noticed a drone moving in the Mankote sector along the LoC. Following the sighting of these drones, the security forces and the police have started joint operations to find out whether weapons or drugs have been dropped anywhere in the Union Territory.
The latest incident of drone sightings came days after security forces came across a cache of arms in Samba district near the LoC. The consignment, which was allegedly dropped by the Pakistani drone, had two pistols, three magazines, 16 rounds of ammunition, and a grenade. The drone sightings in recent times have increased concerns over Pakistan attempting to send arms and drugs in J&K with the help of drones.
Recently, security forces sighted aeroplane-shaped balloons with PIA written on it, leading to thorough investigations. They had also seized a drone that was lying in Pooch district. Another balloon was found in the Samba district.
