Anchor Swetcha suicide: Purna Chandra Badavath arrested; charged under POCSO

Hyderabad Police arrested Purnachandra Badavath in journalist Swetcha Votarkar death case in Hyderabad on Sunday, June 29, tv9 telugu reported.

He has been charged under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and has been sent to judicial custody on charges of abetment to suicide.

Swetcha’s father, Shankar Votarkar, alleged that he Purna Chandra had made promises of marriage to his daughter and broke it. He also alleged that Purna Chandra misbehaved with his minor granddaughter.

Prior to his arrest, he released a letter saying that he did not drive Swetcha to suicide and that he cared for her daughter and paid her school fees.

An FIR has been registered and he has been arrested. The probe is underway.

Purna Chandra was detained and taken into custody in the early hours of Sunday after he appeared before them with his lawyer.

 Swetcha Votarkar, 40, was found dead at her residence in Jawahar Nagar on Friday. She is survived by her 13-year-old daughter. Her body was discovered hanging in her home, and the initial case was registered as a suspicious death pending the post-mortem report from Gandhi Hospital.
