Hyderabad: A boy sustained serious injuries after being struck by a Chinese Manja in Metpally town of Jagtial district, Telangana.
According to local residents, Srihas was playing in front of his house in Dubbawada area of the town on Thursday evening when a Chinese nylon string wrapped around his neck, causing severe injuries.
His family immediately rushed him to the Metpally government hospital. Due to the deep cuts on his neck, he was given first aid and then transferred to Nizamabad for further treatment. It is reported that approximately 20 stitches were required on his neck.
Officials bust Chinese Manja racket in Hyderabad:
Meanwhile, the Special Crime Team of CCS, Hyderabad has busted a racket related to Chinese manja, arresting five people and seizing Monofil Gold nylon string bobbins meant for illegal sale at high prices.
Accused have been handed over to the police for further action. Hyderabad City Police have launched a crackdown ahead of the festival and cautioned citizens against buying or using it.
Reports suggest that the crackdown on the manja trade has pushed it underground as traders adopt secret methods to continue business.
The glass-coated kite string has been banned for over eight years and is deemed a threat to human safety, bird safety, wildlife and environment.
