Four killed in Hyderabad rains; Siddipet district records over 240 mm rainfall

At least three people were swept away by rain in different incidents in Hyderabad on Sunday night as heavy rain triggered flooding in low lying areas of the city. Another person was killed in Vattinagulapally, Gachibowli area after a wall collapsed due to heavy rain, tv9 telugu reported.
In Mangaru Basti, Habeeb Nagar, two men Arjun, 26 and Ramu, 25, accidentally slipped and fell into a flooded stream near their house and were washed away by strong currents, Habeeb Nagar police said.
In Vinobhanagar colony of Parsigutta, Secunderabad, an individual named Dinesh was washed away and went missing.

Disaster Response Forces and Hydraa teams launched rescue operations that continued late into Sunday night. Officials said that heavy downpour made the rescue operations challenging and that more personnel were being deployed to assist in the operation.

Meanwhile, Narayanpet mandal of Siddipet district recorded the highest amount of rainfall of 245.mm followed by Abdullapurmet, Rangareddy district with 128 mm. Musheerabad mandal of Hyderabad recorded 124 mm rainfall. Madnur in Kamareddy received 108.8 mm rain while Kapra in Medchal Malkajgiri, Maredpally, Shiakpet, Ghatkesar in Hyderabad also witnessed over 90 mm rainfall, according to Telangana Development Planning Society data.

Rains pounded Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Tolichowki, Tarnaka, Lakdikapul, Ameerpet, Mehdipatnam, Uppal Kacheguda, Himayatnagar areas of Hyderabad as rain water entered homes and shopkeepers said that their stocks got wet within minutes.
In Musheerabad and Chikkadpally, two-wheelers were stranded in waist-deep water and riders sought shelter under flyovers.
As the city reeled under such heavy rain, emergency response teams were pressed into action. Hydraa, GHMC, SDRF personnel worked through the evening and night, clearing roads and pumping stagnant water out, opening blocked manholes to allow outflow.

Traffic snarls were seen in several parts of the city as vehicles waded through water.
Meanwhile, India Meteorological Department said that light rains are likely in some places in Adilabad, Kothagudem, Hanmakonda, Jagtial, Karimnagar, Mancherial, Mulugu, Hyderabad among others.
