Heavy rain lashes Telangana, Yadadri Bhuvangiri affected by flash floods

Heavy downpour was observed in southeast districts of Telangana overnight on Sunday including in Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Nalgonda, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Warangal, Mahabubabad.

Valigonda of Yadadri Bhuvangiri received 190.8 mm rainfall in just 3 hours, flooding many areas of the district. Atmakur, Mothkur mandals in Yadadri district received  131, 120 mm rain, Kuravi mandal of Mahabubabad district recorded 117.8 mm, Cherla in Bhadradri Kothagudem received 114 mm rain, Telangana Development Planning Society data said.

Rain water entered a chicken farm in Nakkalagudem, Peddakondur gram panchayat in Yadadri district. About 6,000 chickens drowned and died, said Yadi Reddy, the owner of the chicken farm. 

Paddy and cotton crops were submerged across the mandal, causing damage to farmers.

More rain in store for Telangana:

Downpours across Mulugu, Warangal, Mahabubabad, Bhupalpally, Mancherial, Hanmakonda, parts of Peddapalli, Karimnagar is likely over the next 2 hours. Hyderabad is likely to remain dry through the day on Monday, weather blogger T Balaji said.

The Meteorological Department has said that southwest monsoon is likely to retreat from Telangana on Monday. Due to this, scattered rains are likely to occur in Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Jangaon, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Jogulamba and Gadwal districts of the state today.

AP weather forecast: 

Due to the surface cyclonic effect, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely in Alluri, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, Nandyal, Kadapa, Annamayya, and Chittoor districts on Monday, AP Disaster Management Authority said.  The agency has advised people to remain vigilant during rainfall with thunder and lightning.
