State Election Commission declares 52.43 lakh eligible urban voters for Telangana municipal elections

There are 52.43 lakh voters in 118 municipalities and five municipal corporations across Telangana.

Hyderabad: Telangana State Election Commission (SEC) has released the final urban voter list for municipalities and municipal corporations for the upcoming municipal elections.  

According to the data released by the SEC, there are 52.43 lakh voters in Telangana’s cities and towns and women voters outnumber men. The voters emerge from 118 municipalities and five municipal corporations. The five corporations include Mancherial, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Mahabubnagar and Ramagundam.

The elections for urban local bodies will likely be held in February and will be held for those municipalities and corporations whose term expired in July 2025.

Gender wise break up of voters:

Women voter presence is significant, with over 26.8 lakh eligible for voting while there are 25.62 lakh men voters, and 640 transgender voters.

Officials said that there are higher number of women voters in majority of municipalities and municipal corporations, highlighting a shift in voting patterns.

Nizamabad Municipal corporation has the largest urban electorate:

Meanwhile, Nizamabad municipal corporation has the highest number of eligible voters at 3,48,051, making it the largest urban electorate.

GHMC term scheduled to end in Feb:

The SEC has deferred the verification of voters and mapping in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Khammam, Warangal corporations, as they are yet to finish their terms. GHMC’s term is scheduled to end in February while Khammam, Warangal corporations will complete their terms in April.

Adilabad municipality has highest number of voters:

Among the municipalities, Adilabad has the highest number of voters at 1.43 lakh, while Amarchinta has the smallest number of voters with just 9,147 voters.

Officials said the Municipal Administration Department has stepped up its efforts to conduct the elections. However, reservation process has to be completed before poll notification is issued.

Reservations for divisions and wards in municipalities and municipal corporations will be done based on the population. The reservation process is being given top priority ahead of notification, as it is a sensitive issue.
