Telangana High Court halts Akhanda 2 premiere, blocks ticket price hikes

The government has issued a GO to increase ticket prices in Telangana for the film by an additional Rs.50 per ticket for single screens and Rs.100 per ticket in multiplexes from December 12-14.

Hyderabad: The premiere for Akhanda 2 has been halted and the GO issued by the state government has been cancelled on Thursday, tv9 telugu reported.

The court questioned why the state government was repeatedly issuing the same orders and asked why suo motu cognizance should not be initiated against CV Anand, Principal Secretary, Home Department.

The court issued notices to 14 Reels LLP, the producers of the movie and to Book My Show for reportedly facilitating the premiere without proper clearances.

The next hearing will take place on Friday, December 12.

What did the GO say?

The government has issued a GO to increase ticket prices in Telangana for the film by an additional Rs.50 per ticket for single screens and Rs.100 per ticket in multiplexes from December 12-14. In the GO issued by the government, it has allowed the makers to set a price of Rs.600 for a special show on December 11 at 8 pm.

The government also ordered that 20 percent of the additional profits generated by the increase in ticket prices must be earmarked for the welfare of cinema workers.
