Telangana High Court sends notices to state government; asks why IPS officers are in IAS posts

Hyderabad: Telangana High Court has issued notices to the state government and asked them for an explanation over their decision to post IPS officers to IAS positions.

The court is hearing a petition filed by advocate Vadla Srikanth, who argues that the GO 1342 released in September 2025, granting IAS status to IPS officers, is illegal.
During the hearing, Justice Nanda Surapalli issued notices to the Chief Secretary to provide an explanation by December 10th as to why IAS status was granted to IPS officers like Shikha Goel, CV Anand, and Stephen Ravindra.
V Srikanth’s counsel, Vijay Gopal argued that such postings violate the statutory framework and differentiate roles and responsibilities of the two All India Services.
State government seeks more time:
Appearing on behalf of the state government, Rahul Reddy, from Additional Advocate General’s office, asked for more time to file a counter affidavit.
The next hearing has been adjourned to December 10 and the court has asked the state to submit its counter affidavits before the next hearing.
