Telangana: Indiramma Housing beneficiary tied to a tree, assaulted over payment dispute

Hyderabad: A contractor reportedly tied a man who is a Indiramma Housing beneficiary, to a tree and assaulted him over a payment dispute in Kowtha village, Sonala mandal in Adilabad district of Telangana.

Police have registered a case against the contractor identified as Kamble Satyanarayana for assaulting L Maruthi. The man reportedly delayed paying the instalment money released by the state government under the housing scheme. The payment was withheld due to the poor quality of construction of the house.

Maruthi and Satyanarayana entered an agreement for Rs 6.3 lakh and an advance of Rs 50,000 was paid to the contractor as advance. The man alleged that the contractor made him sign a ‘debt agreement’ of Rs 5 lakh. Satyanarayana took matters into his own hands for substandard work.

Indiramma Housing Scheme:

The housing scheme was introduced by the state government to provide housing for the poor and to address the homelessness issue in the state.

The scheme aims to build 75,045 homes initially and it is a part of a larger plan to build over 4.50,000 homes across the state in a year. The Congress government has allotted Rs 22,000 crore for the scheme. The applicants must be residents of Telangana and belong to the lower or middle income categories, not own a permanent house and not be enrolled in any other housing project in the state. General category applicants receive Rs 5 lakh as financial assistance while SC/ST category individuals receive Rs 6 lakh.
