Telangana municipal elections: Reservations finalised for municipalities, corporations

Hyderabad: Telangana government has finalised reservations for Mayors of Municipal Corporations and chairpersons of Municipalities for the upcoming elections across the state.
Municipal Department Director Sridevi announced that 50 percent reservations have been allocated for women across municipalities and corporations. Out of 121 municipalities, 5 have been reserved for STs, 17 for SCs, and 38 for BCs.
Out of 10 corporations, reservations have been allotted as follows:
GHMC – General Women
Warangal – General
Nalgonda, Khammam, Nizamabad – General (Women)
Mahbubnagar – BC Women
Mancherial, Karimnagar – BC (General)
Ramagundam – SC (General)
Kothagudem – ST (General)
Election schedule soon:
The State Election Commission (SEC) is expected to announce the municipal election soon after the government issues a formal GO.
Reservations for municipal wards and corporation divisions are likely to be completed by Saturday evening. The final reservation list will be forwarded to the SEC by Saturday evening, reports said.
The reservation pattern will play a significant role in shaping political strategies of political parties, with emphasis on women’s participation.
