Hyderabad: A record number of nominations have been filed for the first phase of Telangana Gram Panchayat elections, tv9 telugu reported.
1,07,930 nominations have been filed in a total of 31 districts while 25,654 nominations have been registered for Sarpanch posts and 82,276 nominations for wards, State Election Commission said on Sunday.
A flood of nominations were seen in Nizamabad, Khammam and Vikarabad districts and fewer nominations in Mulugu, Narayanpet and Wanaparthy districts.
The first phase of Panchayat elections will be held on December 11 and the results will be declared on the same day. The nomination process for the second phase of Panchayat elections began on Sunday, November 30 and will go on till December 2.
Maximum nominations filed in Suryapet, Peddapalli:
The maximum number of nominations for the posts of Sarpanch was filed in Suryapet district with 1,387. The first phase of elections will be held in 159 gram panchayats in this district. On an average, 8.7 people are contesting for the post of Sarpanch in each panchayat.
In Peddapalli district, 822 nominations were filed for the posts of 99 Sarpanch posts. That is, 8.3 people on an average are contesting the election.
The lowest number was filed in Jagtial district. Here, 297 nominations were filed for the posts of Sarpanch in 122 gram panchayats.
The polls will be held in three phases – first phase on December 11, second phase on Dec 14, third phase on Dec 17.
