Telangana schools to remain closed for a week for Sankranthi
The state govt has designated January 14 as Bhogi, Jan 15 as Sankranti, and Jan 16 as Kanuma.
Hyderabad: Schools in Telangana will remain closed for a week for Sankranti festival in January 2026.
The school education department had earlier announced Sankranti holidays for schools from January 11-15. Recently, the government designated January 14 as Bhogi, Jan 15 as Sankranti, and Jan 16 as Kanuma.
Since January 10 is also a second Saturday, the previously announced holidays were reviewed. It has now been decided that the holidays will be from January 10 to Jan 16. Schools will reopen on Saturday, January 17. Education department officials stated that an official announcement regarding this will be released soon.
New Year celebrations:
School children will also get a holiday on January 1, for the New Year. Schools have also declared a holiday on January 26 for Republic Day, which is celebrated nationwide. Besides these, there are four Sundays in the month.
Sankranti festive celebration:
With educational institutions giving nine consecutive holidays, parents are booking tickets in advance to travel with children. The government is also preparing plans to operate additional buses and trains for festive travel. In the neighbouring state of Andhra Pradesh, schools have also declared holidays for approximately nine days.
