Hyderabad: The warden of a SC girls hostel attacked a third-year degree student, using abusive language and indiscriminately thrashing the woman with a stick for not returning to the hostel after taking an exam, a video that surfaced online showed.
The incident, which took place on November 24 in Jayashankar Bhupalpally, came to light after her fellow students filmed the attack and posted the video on social media.
SC girls hostel warden in news two months ago:
Despite the student's pleas to stop, the warden continued her brutal assault. Incidentally, the hostel warden was in the news two months ago for allegedly conducting religious classes for the students.
The warden identified as Bhavani is seen in the video beating the student mercilessly, saying, "You said you were going out, right? The exit time is 12 o'clock. Don't you have the sense to be back in the hostel by the time the exit time is over? If you don't come back to the hostel, will I still have my job?" Meanwhile, she receives a phone call, speaks on the phone, and is seen brutally beating the student with both hands. The video of the warden's attack on the student is going viral on social media.
Warden suspended, minister to visit hostel:
In a statement, Jayashankar Bhupalpally District Collector announced the suspension of the Hostel Welfare Officer (HWO) R Bhavani. She will continue to be under suspension in public interest until the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings, the statement read.
Minister for Minority Welfare, Adluri Laxman Kumar, is scheduled to visit the SC Girls’ Hostel today to review the situation and interact with students.
The government reiterated that any lapse in student safety or misconduct by officials will not be tolerated, and assured strict action to ensure the protection and welfare of hostel inmates.
