TMC accuses PM Modi of manipulation of facts over Durgapur rally remarks
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Prime Minister following his comments in the Durgapur rally. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh hit back, describing the Prime Minister's speech as a "distortion of truth, application of lies and manipulation of facts."
New Delhi: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Friday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister following his remarks, "For BJP, Bengali identity is above all. But what is happening here? Trinamool is threatening West Bengal's own culture for its own sake. It is bringing in infiltrators, making fake identity cards. It has created an ecosystem, as a result, the country is being harmed, Bengal is being harmed. They have crossed all limits to appease”. The TMC has accused the Prime Minister of misleading the people of West Bengal.
Reacting to Modi's comment during his Durgapur rally, the TMC posted on X, formerly Twitter, "The audacity to say this while standing on Bengal’s soil. Bengali-speaking citizens are being harassed, detained, jailed, and humiliated in Assam, Delhi, Maharashtra, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat – all BJP-ruled states. Either you're exceptionally good at lying, or dangerously ignorant!”
The counter came shortly after the prime minister tried to defend the BJP from TMC's allegations of harassment of Bengali-speaking migrants in BJP ruled states. Modi accused the TMC of undermining Bengal's culture by bringing in infiltrators, creating fake identity cards and building an ecosystem that harms both Bengal and the nation.” He has also alleged that the TMC had "crossed all limits of appeasement politics.”
TMC Spokesperson Kunal Ghosh responds
TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh hit back, describing the Prime Minister's speech as a "distortion of truth, application of lies and manipulation of facts." In a pointed social media post, Ghosh highlighted the central government alleged failures saying , "Unemployment is rising under BJP rule, along with corruption and violence against women."
He further claimed that despite the Centre's alleged discrimination in fund allocation Bengal had made progress under CM Mamata Banerjee's leadership. "This is evident in central government reports and NITI Aayog’s findings,” Ghosh said.
He further took a political swiped ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, Ghosh added that the BJP "won’t even reach 40 seats” in the state.
