Morena: In a shocking incident, two persons lost their lives and three others were injured after a BJP youth leader rammed his vehicle over them in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district. The incident, which took place at the Porsa-Jotai Road bypass intersection, occurred when the victims were sitting around a bonfire outside their residence.

Both the deceased have been identified as Ram Dutt Rathore (65) and Arnav Lakshakar (10). Both of them lost their lives while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Gwalior. At the time of the accident, the vehicle was allegedly driven by Deependra Bhadauria, the BJP Youth Wing Vice President of its rural unit in Porsa. Soon after the accident, the victims were thrown several feet on the road, NDTV reported.

Accused was driving the car at high speed

According to eyewitnesses, the accused was driving the car at a very high speed and was under the influence of alcohol when the accident took place. After the accident, angry locals beat up the accused before handing him over to the police.

Within minutes, however, the accused escaped from police custody, triggering an increase in anger among locals. The circumstances under which he managed to escape custody have themselves become controversial.

Following the accused’s escape, locals blocked the Porsa-Jotai road for close to 20 minutes, after which senior officials reached the spot and tried to calm them. One of the injured had even refused to take medical treatment unless the accused his caught. The blockade was lifted after an assurance was given by officers.

Search operation underway to nab the accused

According to the police, a search operation is underway to nab the accused, and a case has been registered in connection with the incident. The police had said that the post-mortem examinations would be conducted and the two bodies would be brought to Porsa for the last rites of the deceased.
