Breaking News Live Updates: A special debate on ‘Operation Sindoor’began  at 2 pm. This discussion is about India’s military action taken in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people, most of them tourists.

The debate comes after a week of disruptions in Parliament since the monsoon session began on July 21. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to start the discussion. According to PTI sources, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and BJP leaders Anurag Thakur and Nishikant Dubey are also likely to speak. Prime Minister Narendra Modi may join the debate in the Lok Sabha and possibly in the Rajya Sabha as well.

The first week of the session saw several interruptions, including the sudden resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. The Rajya Sabha will hold its own debate on Operation Sindoor on Tuesday, where Rajnath Singh and S Jaishankar are also expected to take part.

Government should answer how terrorists reached Pahalgam: Aaditya Thackeray

As the debate on Operation Sindoor continues in the Lok Sabha,  Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray, while speaking to the media in Mumbai, questioned the government about a security lapse in Pahalgam on April 22. "How did terrorists come to Pahalgam and how did they do what they did...The government should answer this because the army keeps doing its job..." he asked.

It was important to send a clear, strong, resolute message: S Jaishnakar

Speaking on Operation Sindoor in the House, EAM  S Jaishankar said, "... It was important to send a clear, strong and resolute message after the Pahalgam attack. Our red lines had been crossed. And we had to make it very apparent that there would be serious consequences as a result. The first step, which was taken, was that a meeting of the Cabinet Committee of Security took place on 23rd April. That meeting decided that-

1. The Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 will be held in abeyance with immediate effect until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably abjures its support for cross-border terrorism.

2. The Integrated Check Post Attari would be closed with immediate effect.

3. Pakistani nationals who are travelling under SARC visa exemption scheme will no longer be allowed to do that.

4. The Defence, Naval and Air advisors of the Pakistani High Commission would be declared Persona non grata

5. The overall strength of the High Commission would be brought down to 30 from the number of 55."

Give 'martyr' status to Pahalgam attack victims, support their families: Shubham Dwivedi's wife

As the Lok Sabha debated 'Operation Sindoor' on Monday, Aishanya Dwivedi, the wife of Pahalgam terror attack victim Shubham Dwivedi, demanded 'Martyr' status for all 26 victims of the horrific incident.

She also accused political leaders of undermining the gravity of the April 22 attack this year and reminded them that "terrorists didn't ask for anyone's caste or political party -- they attacked Indians".

"It's been three months since the attack (Pahalgam terror attack) and only now the matter is finally being addressed in Parliament," Aishanya told PTI.

Country wanted Operation Tandoor, not Sindoor: SP MP Rajbhar in Lok Sabha

Samajwadi Party MP Ramashankar Rajbhar on Monday said in Lok Sabha that the country wanted "Operation Tandoor" after the Pahalgam terror attack to roast the terrorist responsible for it, and not Operation Sindoor.

Speaking during the special debate in the Lower House on the Pahalgam terror strike and Operation Sindoor, he accused the government of failing to act decisively and questioned the "delay" in the operation, saying that a mission that should have been initiated in three days was carried out after 17 days.

Speaking in debate on Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi targeted the government, saying the Union Government cannot hide behind the LG of J&K. Gogoi was referring to the recent interview of the JK LG Manoj Sinha, in which he took the responsibility for the Pahalgham attack, saying that there was a major security lapse in it. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, lambasting Pakistan, said that the dialogue cannot be done with a country which has "religious fanaticism and hatred against India". "Dialogue can be done with civilised and democratic nations.
