Breaking News Live Updates: A special debate on ‘Operation Sindoor’began at 2 pm. This discussion is about India’s military action taken in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people, most of them tourists.
The debate comes after a week of disruptions in Parliament since the monsoon session began on July 21. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to start the discussion. According to PTI sources, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and BJP leaders Anurag Thakur and Nishikant Dubey are also likely to speak. Prime Minister Narendra Modi may join the debate in the Lok Sabha and possibly in the Rajya Sabha as well.
The first week of the session saw several interruptions, including the sudden resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. The Rajya Sabha will hold its own debate on Operation Sindoor on Tuesday, where Rajnath Singh and S Jaishankar are also expected to take part.
During the discussion on Operation Sindoor in the House, Congress MP Praniti Shinde said, " Operation Sindoor was nothing but a 'tamasha' of the government in the media. No one is telling us what was achieved in this Operation. How many terrorists were caught? How many fighter jets did we lose? Who is responsible and whose mistake is this, should be answered by the government..."
As the debate on Operation Sindoor continues in the Lok Sabha, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray, while speaking to the media in Mumbai, questioned the government about a security lapse in Pahalgam on April 22. "How did terrorists come to Pahalgam and how did they do what they did...The government should answer this because the army keeps doing its job..." he asked.
In the middle of the debate on Operation Sindoor, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stood up and slammed the Opposition for disrupting EAM S Jaishankar's response on measures taken against Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack. "You are believing the words of your External Affairs Minister," Shah said.
Speaking on Operation Sindoor in the House, EAM S Jaishankar said, "... It was important to send a clear, strong and resolute message after the Pahalgam attack. Our red lines had been crossed. And we had to make it very apparent that there would be serious consequences as a result. The first step, which was taken, was that a meeting of the Cabinet Committee of Security took place on 23rd April. That meeting decided that-
1. The Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 will be held in abeyance with immediate effect until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably abjures its support for cross-border terrorism.
2. The Integrated Check Post Attari would be closed with immediate effect.
3. Pakistani nationals who are travelling under SARC visa exemption scheme will no longer be allowed to do that.
4. The Defence, Naval and Air advisors of the Pakistani High Commission would be declared Persona non grata
5. The overall strength of the High Commission would be brought down to 30 from the number of 55."
Speaking during the debate on the Operation Sindoor, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that India highlighted Pakistan's history of terrorism. "Our message was- zero tolerance of terrorism and the right to defend our people against terrorism".

According to the sources, around two hours are allotted to the Congress party.Other likely speakers who will be speaking in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday are Akhilesh Prasad Singh, Renuka Chaudhari/Rajni Patil, and P.Chidambaram
As the Lok Sabha debated 'Operation Sindoor' on Monday, Aishanya Dwivedi, the wife of Pahalgam terror attack victim Shubham Dwivedi, demanded 'Martyr' status for all 26 victims of the horrific incident.
She also accused political leaders of undermining the gravity of the April 22 attack this year and reminded them that "terrorists didn't ask for anyone's caste or political party -- they attacked Indians".
"It's been three months since the attack (Pahalgam terror attack) and only now the matter is finally being addressed in Parliament," Aishanya told PTI.
Samajwadi Party MP Ramashankar Rajbhar on Monday said in Lok Sabha that the country wanted "Operation Tandoor" after the Pahalgam terror attack to roast the terrorist responsible for it, and not Operation Sindoor.
Speaking during the special debate in the Lower House on the Pahalgam terror strike and Operation Sindoor, he accused the government of failing to act decisively and questioned the "delay" in the operation, saying that a mission that should have been initiated in three days was carried out after 17 days.
Criticing the government for stopping the Operation suddenly, Shiv Sena UBT MP Arvind Ganpat Sawant said that it was the right time to take back Indian Occupied Kashmir from Pakistan. "No one stopped you (Centre). You didn't achieve any milestone by carrying out Operation Sindoor. This was the right time to teach a lesson to Pakistan".
Arvind Ganpat Sawant, Shiv Sena UBT MP from Mumbai South, while participating in the Operation Sindoor debate, said that the government of a single SAARC country is not on good terms with India. "Not a single country stands with us. Instead, we are standing with Israel against Iran, which is giving us fuel on credit".
During the discussion on Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said that "we have the right to know the truth. We are not enemies of the government, we are in favour of the country".
In a blistering attack on the Centre, the Congress on Monday said Home Minister Amit Shah must take responsibility for the lapses that led to the Pahalgam attack and asked the government to clarify how many Indian jets were downed during Operation Sindoor.
Participating in the special debate on Pahalgam terror strikes and Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha, Congress' deputy leader in the House Gaurav Gogoi also slammed the government over US President Donald Trump's claim "26 times" that he used trade to bring about a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, and asked, "before whom did Prime Minister Narendra Modi surrender".
Speaking in debate on Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi targeted the government, saying the Union Government cannot hide behind the LG of J&K. Gogoi was referring to the recent interview of the JK LG Manoj Sinha, in which he took the responsibility for the Pahalgham attack, saying that there was a major security lapse in it. "In the end, who takes responsibility for the Pahalgam attack? The LG of Jammu and Kashmir. If someone needs to take responsibility, it is the Union Home Minister. Union HM and the Central Govt cannot hide behind the LG... The government is so weak and cowardly that it said that the Tour Operators are responsible for taking people to Baisaran without their permission or license... PM Modi came back from Saudi Arabia, but he did not visit Pahalgam. He attended a government program and addressed a political rally in Bihar. Speaking about the claims made by the US President and Pakistan regarding the downing of Rafale during Operation Sindoor, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi demanded full details of the operation from the Defence Ministry, saying that if some Rafale jets have been downed, then it is a "big loss" for the country.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, lambasting Pakistan, said that the dialogue cannot be done with a country which has "religious fanaticism and hatred against India". "Dialogue can be done with civilised and democratic nations. But a nation that does not have an iota of democracy, and there is just religious fanaticism and hatred against India, there cannot be a dialogue with them... The language of terrorism is fear, blood and hate, not dialogue. The voice of dialogue is suppressed under the firing of bullets. There cannot be talks where there is blood... During the Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said today’s India believes in acting decisively. He asserted that when an adversary uses terrorism as a strategy and refuses to respond to dialogue, standing firm becomes the only viable response.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, speaking in the Lok Sabha, said war should be waged only against equals. Citing Tulsidas, he stated that both love and enmity should be between equals. "If a lion kills a frog, it doesn’t send a good message," he remarked, adding that India’s armed forces are like lions.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said India had reached its limit after past terror attacks like the 2006 Parliament assault and the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Citing Lord Krishna, he said the time had come to pick up the Sudarshan Chakra to defend dharma, a symbolic reference to India’s decisive military action through Operation Sindoor.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said in the Lok Sabha that while the government had made several efforts to establish peace with Pakistan, it later chose a different route through the 2016 surgical strike, 2019 Balakot air strike, and 2025’s Operation Sindoor. He asserted the Modi government’s clear stand: “Talks and terror cannot go together.”
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, during the Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, criticised Opposition members for questioning how many Indian aircraft were shot down. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh told the Lok Sabha that India’s S-400, Akash missile systems and air defence guns played a crucial role in repelling Pakistan’s attack, calling them highly effective in neutralising the threat.
During the Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said India halted the operation only after fulfilling its pre-set political and military goals. Rejecting claims of external pressure, he called such suggestions “baseless and absolutely wrong.” He added that throughout his political career, he has always strived to never speak lies.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the Indian armed forces carried out well-coordinated and precise strikes on nine terrorist infrastructure targets. Around 100 terrorists, along with their trainers, handlers, and aides, were killed. Most belonged to Pakistan-backed groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen, he added, accusing Pakistan’s army and ISI of openly supporting these outfits.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the Indian armed forces for the successful execution of Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. He stated that over 100 terrorists were eliminated during the operation.
