Washington DC: US politician Zohran Mamdani was mocked for eating with his hands in an interview. He was asked by a Congressman to go back to the "Third World". The video of Mamdani is now going viral on social media, sparking a wide variety of comments.

In the video posted by ‘End Wokeness’, Mamdani is spotted casually eating rice and lentils with his hands while answering the questions of an interviewer about how he stands out as a politician in America. The video was captioned, "Zohran says his worldview is inspired by the 3rd world while eating rice with his hands." US Congressman Brandon Gill reposted the video of Mamdai and criticised him severely. He wrote, "Civilised people in America don’t eat like this. If you refuse to adopt Western customs, go back to the Third World.”

The Republican member's criticism faced backlash from people online. Some claimed it was unnecessary to attack Mamdani's culture. "You can’t really criticise his policies, so you resort to personal attacks on his culture," wrote one. Another commented, "America isn’t reserved only for the so-called "civilised". Show me where the U.S. Constitution says that. And since when is eating with your hands considered uncivilised? Who made you the judge of culture?"

Some went to the extent of reminding Gill that he was married to a woman of South Indian origin. "Your wife is South Indian. She grew up eating rice with her hands. You’re literally marrying into it," wrote one netizen. Another claimed, "America has no culture! In fact, it's a collection of different cultures! So you are wrong on this one!"

Meanwhile, many thought that Mamdani was "performing" to boost his chances of becoming the next mayor of New York with his cultural cues.  “It’s so funny that Zohran clearly uses cutlery to eat all the time (even a burrito on the subway), but he eats with his hands on camera as if it’s a costume performance for white people to find him exotic," opined one.
