New Delhi: Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Kaish Khan was arrested from Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj. The police found him hiding behind a mattress at his brother's home. The police had got a tip off regarding the man hiding at his brother's place and reached there to search the house. During the search they found Khan hiding behind a mattress kept on a loft in one of the rooms.
Kaish Khan is known to be close to SP leader and former Chief Minister of UP, Akhilesh Yadav. Khan had been ordered by Kannauj District Magistrate, Ashutosh Mohan Agnihotri to stay out of Kannauj district for 6 months. The order had been passed on July 28. The court had also directed him to leave the district immediately.
After the court order was passed, Kashish Khan had not been seen in the district. However on Wednesday, police received information about him being in the Balapeer area of the district.
Soon after receiving the information, police conducted searches for him. They first went to Khan's house, but did not find him there. The police then went to his brother's house, but initially failed to locate him. However, the police team continued to search for him and finally found him hiding behind a mattress. He was then taken into custody.
The Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar was quoted by India Today as saying, "He was arrested while relaxing at his house. Later, it was discovered he had also tried to hide in the loft to evade us."
The SP leader has several criminal cases registered against him. This time he will be booked under Section 3 and 10 of the Goonda Act. Earlier this year, in January, the UP government had taken bulldozer action against one marriage hall owned by Khan. He was accused of illegally occupying a road in the municipality area by placing a lintel on it.
