This achievement reflects growing success in air quality management under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) by the Ministry of Environment.

Dehradun: Uttarakhand has achieved a big success in improving air quality, as reflected in the results of the Clean Air Survey 2025. The survey, conducted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), assessed air quality management across cities in India.

Three major cities of Uttarakhand — Dehradun, Rishikesh, and Kashipur — have recorded significant improvement in their national rankings, showing clear signs of better pollution control and environmental efforts.

Dehradun showed one of the most impressive jumps in this year’s rankings, climbing from the 37th position in 2024 to the 19th in 2025. Rishikesh also moved up the list significantly, rising from the 31st spot last year to the 14th position this year. Kashipur, too, displayed consistent performance, improving from 19th to 18th place. These achievements are being seen as a result of collective efforts from government bodies, industries, and the active participation of citizens.

Success was possible due to a number of focused actions taken across the cities

Chairman of the Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board, Ramesh Kumar Sudhanshu, said that the success was possible due to a number of focused actions taken across the cities. These included regular mechanical road cleaning to control dust, better management of solid waste and construction debris, and the development of green belts in and around city areas. The use of clean fuels in industries and the implementation of smart traffic management systems also helped improve overall air quality. Most importantly, large-scale public awareness campaigns encouraged local communities to contribute to the mission for clean air.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami praised the cities and the Pollution Control Board for their dedication and teamwork. He said that the improved rankings are not just numbers but a sign of Uttarakhand’s deep commitment to providing clean air for everyone. The state government plans to build on this momentum by further expanding green cover, upgrading real-time air monitoring systems, involving more citizens in environment-friendly practices, and adopting innovative technologies to control pollution more effectively.
