Dehradun: The cold wave in Uttarakhand has intensified as temperatures continue to drop sharply. While bright sunshine is seen during the day, chilly winds in the evening and night are making the cold unbearable.
The Meteorological Center has warned that the severity of the cold may increase further in the coming days.
Minus 10°C in Niti Valley
The coldest conditions were recorded in Chamoli district’s Niti Valley, where the temperature dipped to minus 10°C. Streams and waterfalls in the valley have frozen due to continuous frost and lack of rainfall. Locals are facing extreme difficulties as water sources remain frozen.
Fog Alert in Plains
The Meteorological Center has issued a yellow alert for dense fog in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts. Fog is expected to reduce visibility in the plains, creating risks for travelers. Authorities have advised people to drive cautiously and avoid early morning journeys.
Frost in Mountains
Along with fog in the plains, frost is expected in the mountainous regions. The continuous dry weather has increased the chill, and the minimum temperature is likely to drop further in the next few days.
Dry weather across the state
Dry weather is prevailing across Uttarakhand. In Dehradun and surrounding areas, sunshine provided some relief during the day on Wednesday, but mornings and evenings remained extremely cold. The maximum temperature in Dehradun dropped by four degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature stayed close to normal.
In other plain districts, the minimum temperature has fallen one to two degrees below normal. The difference between day and night temperatures is causing discomfort and health problems for residents.
Dense fog in the plains will remain a challenge
The weather department has predicted that Uttarakhand will continue to experience dry conditions. While sunshine may provide temporary relief during the day, biting cold at night and dense fog in the plains will remain a challenge. Residents are advised to take precautions against the cold and fog, especially children, elderly, and travelers.
