Dehradun: The dry winter in Uttarakhand is about to change. According to the Meteorological Department, rain and snowfall are expected in many parts of the state as the New Year begins. An active western disturbance in the Himalayan region is likely to bring unstable weather conditions.
Dense fog has already been troubling people in the plains, making travel difficult. The department has warned of cold day conditions in some parts of Udham Singh Nagar district.
Rain and snowfall forecast
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rain and snowfall in several districts. These include Uttarkashi, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh. Light rain and snowfall may also occur in Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Dehradun, Tehri, and Pauri.
Other districts such as Nainital, Almora, and Champawat are also likely to see light rain and snowfall. Snowfall is expected in areas above 3,200 meters, which could attract tourists to higher mountain regions.

The Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for dense fog in the plains. Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, Champawat, Dehradun, and Pauri are expected to experience heavy fog.
On Tuesday morning, Dehradun and nearby areas were covered in fog, though sunshine later raised temperatures by about four degrees Celsius above normal. Drivers have been advised to exercise caution due to reduced visibility.
