Dehradun: The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in several districts of Uttarakhand. For the past few days, continuous rainfall has caused landslides, blocked roads, and disturbed daily life across the state. From the plains to the hills, people are facing many challenges.
On August 6, light to moderate rain was recorded in all districts. But Dehradun, Pauri, and Nainital saw heavy to very heavy rainfall. Landslides in hilly areas led to road collapses, making travel risky and difficult.
Districts under yellow alert
The yellow alert has been issued for Dehradun, Pauri, Bageshwar, Champawat, and Nainital districts. Thunderstorms with lightning and intense rain may occur at isolated places in all districts. People living in sensitive zones have been asked to stay cautious and avoid unnecessary travel.
Schools closed in Chamoli
Due to the bad weather, schools and Anganwadi centers in Chamoli district have been closed today (August 7). The administration is taking safety steps to protect children and residents. In Uttarkashi’s Dharali area, recent damage from rain has raised serious concerns.
Heavy rain has now shifted its fury to Kumaon region of Uttarakhand
Just a day after a devastating cloudburst wreaked havoc in Dharali village of Uttarkashi, heavy rain has now shifted its fury to the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. Districts like Nainital, Almora, Bageshwar, Champawat, and Pithoragarh are witnessing intense rainfall, triggering landslides, road blockages, and rising river levels.
Alerts for flash floods and thunderstorms
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for continued heavy rain in the region, with alerts for flash floods and thunderstorms. The sudden shift in weather patterns has raised questions about the increasing frequency of extreme events in the state.
Appeal to stay alert
The Meteorological Department has warned of possible landslides, falling boulders, and road closures from August 7 to 10. In the plains, water levels in small rivers and drains may rise, leading to waterlogging. People are advised to stay indoors during heavy rain, avoid hilly routes, and follow safety instructions from local officials. Tourists should check weather updates before planning any travel.
